Sixteen years ago I became an educator. Since that time I have lived and taught in four countries, become a leader in schools, and become an expert in education beyond the academics.  Look at my resume. I hope to find private students and families that are looking for more than just a tutor. I offer classed designed to teach and reinforce core subject matter, in fun engaging ways that students like. Furthermore, all of my classes are designed to grow in non-academic ways as well such as collaborative skills, critical thinking ability, creativity and self directed confidence.

Zombie Learning

  • Attention parents and students! Tired of boring lessons? Not here! In this thrilling, apocalyptic scenario, students will join forces to save the world from a zombie apocalypse. With the threat of impending doom, they'll take on the roles of scientists racing to find a cure for the virus, presidents making tough decisions under pressure, geographers analyzing maps and data to identify the safest locations, and policy specialists working with global leaders to create a unified strategy for a safer world. Learning has never been this exciting!

  • To save the world from zombies, students must apply a range of skills. They'll use math to calculate zombie population speeds, science to conduct real experiments following the scientific method, and reading to study the apocalypse and understand global responses. Writing will be essential for documenting their nation's actions, sharing information with other nations, and crafting policies. Geography and history skills will help them learn about the nation they now lead, while tech skills will be used to design posters and organize data in spreadsheets.

  • The size of the group determines the world we create, but we always use the real world so students can gather accurate information—such as demographics, geographic data, and cultural details—about their assigned nation. For instance, if there are three groups, we might create a world with only Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand. With ten groups, we would select ten interconnected nations. Once the zombie outbreak is announced, the game begins. From that point, a series of events unfolds, challenging students to use both academic and non-academic skills to navigate the zombie apocalypse.

  • In-person learning offers a richer experience for students, allowing them to meet, debate, collaborate, and work together to solve big challenges. Since I’m based in Salt Lake City, we could meet once or twice a week, depending on the group’s needs and abilities.

That said, a fully virtual experience is also possible. In today's world, we can make it work seamlessly—it would still be a lot of fun, with supplies shipped directly to each student’s home.

  • 9 weeks

  • $1500.00 + $500.00 per student.

The more participants we have the cheaper it gets per family.

Big Idea Learning

  • To be clear, the BIG IDEA is entirely up to the students! However, turning an idea into a final product or solution is challenging. Students will be guided through a process that teaches them how to manage big problems and shows the value of trusting a structured approach to solving complex issues. With the support of their teacher, they will design a framework to manage their project from start to finish and create goals along the way.

  • Certain skills, like reading, writing, and math, are essential to every project. However, due to the open-ended nature of this project, the exact skills required can't be precisely predicted. As students progress, they inevitably encounter a need for expertise in specific areas. With guidance from their teacher and support from community members, they develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that go beyond what can be learned within the four walls of a classroom.

  • Students will receive valuable instruction on designing a project framework, managing time and resources (including group member assignments), creating clear, measurable goals using rubrics, and utilizing feedback as a tool for reflection and improvement. Beyond this guidance, students take the lead, steering their project through collaboration and committee work.

  • The length of the project depends on the BIG IDEA and the desired outcomes. For example, if a group of middle schoolers wants to build a chicken coop from recycled materials and create an instruction manual for others to follow, it might take about three months, meeting twice a week. On the other hand, if high schoolers aim to save the Great Salt Lake, we might meet once every other week over the course of a year. Parents, students, and Bumblebee will collaborate to decide on these parameters.

  • $100.00 per 1.5hrs of meeting time + $20.00 per additional student in the group.

If we meet for an hour and a half and there are four students in the group the cost would be (100 + 20 X 4)=180. Each parent would owe 45$.

We can also work out a flat rate depending on the project.

Song Writer and Guitar Lessons

  • Songwriting is an art that can be approached in countless ways. With over 20 years of experience creating music and 16 years of teaching, I blend both to offer guitar lessons and songwriting instruction.

  • I can teach guitar and ukulele. If students want learn song writing techniques and already know piano or other stringed instruments that works as well.

  • People who love playing and creating music are motivated to keep learning, which is why I focus on making lessons enjoyable for my students. I also tailor my teaching methods to fit each student's unique learning style. With 16 years of experience as a classroom teacher and educator, I am well-versed in identifying learning styles and differentiating instruction.

  • Both. I live in the SLC area.

  • $60.00 per hour long class.

    $550.00 for 10 classes
